Originally from Bronx, New York, Dr. Jose Marina was raised in Miami, Florida and at the age of 17 enlisted in the US Army where he earned his degree as a Physical Therapist. It was then that he discovered his love for orthopedics. After completing 5 years of active service, he enrolled at NOVA Southeastern University where he received his medical degree. He had the honor to serve as Chief of Orthopedic residents when completing a 5 year Orthopedic Surgery specialty training at Michigan State University in 1998.
Dr. Marina has been board certified since 2001 and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. His special interest is in reconstructive knee and hip surgery. During his 14 year career he has successfully performed over two thousand (2,000) hip and knee replacement surgeries combined. He is a clinical associate professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Texas Pan American since 2001. He is also a board examiner for the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
